Moed B grades are available | |
Dear Students, Moed B grades are available online. 7 points were added to the exam grades (ExamBfinal). FinalB grades, that include the home assignments (15%), are also available. Those of you who failed the exam did not receive the homework addition, according our course's policy (assuming they did HWs). Appeals can be submitted only within the next two weeks. Under 'course material' you can find an appeal form in word. You may fill this form and send it to my email (eran@cs) together with your exam scan attached. Those of you who failed, you may transfer your HW grades to next semester given that you actually did them this semester. Please email me about that. Those of you who failed the course for the second time and cannot transfer the HWs again - you may transfer your grade only for HW1 and HW2 (you'll get your HW_AVG for both). Dear Students, Moed A grades are available online. ExamA_final are your final exam grades after an addition of 1 point for checking inaccuracies. Dear Students, The moed A exam will be held on Thursday, 13/2/14, at 13:00-16:00 in Taub 3-9. You're allowed (and should) bring two 2-sided formula pages and a simple calculator. The material includes everything we've studied in the Lectures and Tutorials (up to and including numerical integration). Postponement of HW7 by 1 day. | |
Dear Students, Following many requests for postponement due to the midterm in Automata, the due date for HW7 is now the 8/1 - an extension of one day. Please note that the assignment is rather short - its length is a bit more than half of a final exam. Also - the next assignment will be published on the 7th. Eran. P.S The rather short extension of one day was given to many of you during the semester following a midterm. We usually do not give long extensions for reasons of work-load - this is the reason why you have a pretty flexible late-submission option. |

Updated grades for Hw1 and Hw2 | |
Dear Students, There were many complaints about the harsh checking of HW1 and HW2 - that many points were reduced for little errors, at least compared to previous semesters. Although the averages of the grades were in the 90s, I still could see that some of your complaints were legit. We will not collect all assignments back and check case by case, but we decided to add 50% of the reduced points back. I realize that this is not ideal for all cases but it's pretty good in general. I hope that this makes you feel better about the effort that you invested in this work. Eran. |

Late Submissions of Home Assignments | |
Dear Students, I would like to clarify our course's policy regarding late submissions: Late submissions are given without penalty only in cases of reserve duties and illness. In case that you have studies pressure (moed Bs, moed Cs, seminars, HWs in other courses etc.) you have late submission penalty. The penalty is pretty small - it is 2^n up to 4 days, where n is the number of days. Friday+Saturday count as one day. Any requests for a late submission should be sent to me (eran@cs). In case of a late submission with penalty you only need to notify me by email when you submit the assignment. ALL late submissions should be put in MY CELL in the 5th floor (NOT the course's cell). Free Alternatives for Matlab | |
Dear Students, For those of you who are interested, there are 2 free alternatives for Matlab that we recommend: The first is Octave and it can be downloaded from http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/. Its syntax is very Matlab-compatible and it even has an import/export option for Matlab's code. As far as I understand, Octave is mostly recommended for Linux users, but it can also be installed on Windows. The second option is FreeMat and it can be downloaded at http://freemat.sourceforge.net/. This one is recommended for Windows users. It looks very nice and its code seems to be very Matlab-compatible. We do not need sophisticated toolboxes in this course, so the above software will definitely suffice. Our code will be very simple, and we'll write all of our programs from scratch. Other languages, such as C/C++/JAVA etc. are also possible. In this case you'll need packages for plotting and solving linear systems (your code will be longer too). Regards, Eran. |
