I would like to register, but I am taking Algorithms this semester (Winter 2018-2019) and I do not have a grade yet.
You can register after you get your grade. The registration form is open until February 25th, and acceptance will not be according to the date of registration. If you already signed up and did not fill-in your Algorithms grade, please e-mail Nofar with your grade once you have it. |
Do we need to find a team before signing up?
No. At the beginning of the semester, there will be a few lessons where you can meet the rest of the class and find teammates. |
What are the prerequisites?
The prerequisites are Algorithms 1 and Data Structures. The Mathematics faculty's algorithm course is also OK (along with Data Structures). Note that we will assume knowledge taught in these classes during the workshop. |
How do I register? | |
Feel in the form in the following link (it is the same link as in the first announcement).

Will this course count as a project or a seminar?
No. |
What programming languages can we use?
In the workshop we will only use C++. |
What will the grades be based on?
The grades will be based on homework, attendance in the workshops, your achievements in the workshop, and the final competition. There will be no final exam. Please see the information page for more details. |
What will the winning team win?
The winning team will be invited to fly to Europe to represent the faculty and the Technion in the upcoming SWERC (South West Europe Regional Contest), a part of the worldwide ACM-ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest). In order to participate in SWERC, all team members have to meet the ACM-ICPC eligibility criteria.

What will be the format of the workshop?
The workshop will be held mostly in the computer farm in Taub, where you will practice solving problems from previous competitions and submitting them to an online judge. As in the competition, you will work in teams of three, where each team uses only one computer. |
How and when will the competition at the end of the semester take place?
The competition will be very similar to the official ACM-ICPC format. You will have 5 hours to solve as many out of 8 problems as you can (teams of three, one computer per team). The competition will take place in the last week of the semester, as usual at the Taub computer farm. |
Will everyone who registers be able to attend the course?
That depends. The number of participants is limited by the size of the classroom, so we might restrict registration based on grades average and prerequisites, or open two classes. So it's a good idea to have a back-up plan in case you are not accepted to the course. That being said - if you want to take the workshop, please sign up even if you're not sure you will make the cut. Don't make the decision for us. |
I'm a student at another faculty, can I sign up for the course?
Yes, use the registration form. As noted - registration is not guaranteed for all students who sign up, so have a backup plan. |
I'm a masters student, can I sign up?
Yes. We are not sure yet if the course will be open to masters students, but the sign up sheet will help us make that decision, so if you are interested please sign up. Also, notice that this course is an undergraduate course, so you will need a special permission from to take the course from the vice dean of graduate studies. |
I already took the course, can I sign up again?
You cannot retake the course, but you can compete at the end-of-year competition for your chance to represent the Technion in SWERC. If you are interested, please email gilbe@cs during the spring semester. |
