Exam Structure ▸ The test will contain both open and closed (american) questions. Wherever a place for explanation is left to you, please explain your answers to the full. No explanation = No points. ▸ The exam header page is now available under Exams->Spring 2019 - be sure to read it before the test. It holds a some minor changes with regards to the Moed A cover page. Dry Assignment Grades & Appeals ▸ You may appeal electronically until 27/7 at 23:30 through the link in Assignments-->HW4 --> HW4 Dry - Appeals ▸ Please type your appeals – handwritten appeals will not be checked. Wet Assignment Grades & Appeals ▸ The test description will be made available shortly under Assignments-->HW4-->HW4 Wet. You may find the relevant logs that our test framework produced when running your code in the GR Homework panel. ▸ If you wish to appeal, please email the Wet-HW checker (Sami) directly. ▸ Zeros in the grades are usually due missing submissions or code that did not compile For those without justification, 5 points were removed from the grade for each late day ▸ General appeal policy for the wet submission: All resubmissions result in a 10 point loss, atop of the late days penalty. You may change any piece of code you like, but the code must be significantly similar to the code you submitted before. Notes about the feedback file ▸ If for a certain test section, you did not receive any test results (neither SUCCESSFUL nor FAILED) - then there are three options (1) You did not submit that specific part. You can check that by re-downloading your submission. (2) You submitted that part but your code did not compile. It should show so in your feedback file. (3) Your code crashed or segfaulted during the test. If this is it, and you do now know how your code might have failed, please email Sami directly for more information. Regards, -- Course Staff |

Submission of HW3 | |
Dear students, We are closing in on the submission date of HW3. Please remember that the CS servers tend to crash due to the parallel computation workloads a day or two before the submission deadline. Do not wait for the last minute to submit - you might not be able to check your submission due to server crash. IT has kindly allocated an additional server for your needs - it is available under: csl3b.cs.technion.ac.il Remember to check the server load before running your workloads. Homework Regulations
Dear students, Many discrepancies in homework regulations have been seen in HW1. These include: 1. Faulty submitters.txt files - 6 pairs of students have not filled the file, or partially filled it. 2. Irrelevant or missing opening page - many students have presented the dry homework with no opening page at all, leaving the assignment with virtually no identifying marks of any kind. 3. File order - many students have not followed the instructions on how the submission zip file should look like. All these create more work for the TAs and the HW checkers, seeing such cases are not covered by the automatic testing system. Discrepancies such as these have been handled with a 3 point reduction in the assignment grade. Please take care to follow the instructions as closely as possible on HW 2,3,4. Regards, -- Course Staff |

HW2 | |
Dear students, HW2 is now published. We suggest that you start working on it as soon as possible - this exercise is longer and more complex than HW1. General Instructions: ▸ Please read the submission regulations available inside each assignment. Specifically, we remind you that the homework assignments must be submitted in pairs. ▸ When unsure on the policy specifics, please ask for a clarification in the 'logistics' tab in the Piazza. Bending of regulations will render your assignment ineligible for grading. ▸ The assignment Q&A will be managed in our Piazza forum: https://piazza.com/class?nid=jo64782dcdv4xs Please do not send homework-related questions to the private emails of the TAs. Notes: ▸ Due to the Passover holiday, an additional week was added to the standard two-week submission period. Good Luck, -- Course staff |

Recitations in the following weeks
Dear students, The material this week and in some of the following weeks is heavy with explanations on important kernel data structures and code We recommend getting used to the habit of opening up the kernel code, and looking up the code and data structure definitions we talked about in class. Two ways to do this: 1. Download the HW0 kernel code and open up the relevant source file with any text editor. Location of each definition usually exists in the recitation slide margins. Recommended text editors are: CLion, Visual Studio Code, Notepad++ and Sublime 2. Look up the kernel code online. A relevant link has been added to the 'Links' tab in the course website. Please take care to choose versions 2.6.* - which are close to identical to the version you'll be working with in the course. This will allow you a more complete understanding of the course material. For very specific questions on the kernel code, please consult the man (also in Links) and Google. Remember - many of the questions you may have have already been answered in the past on Stack Overflow or other websites. Regards, -- Course Staff |

VMware Troubles | |
Dear students, If you have already installed VMware and have completed HW0 - Please disregard this message. For those who haven't, new instructions on how to download VMware have been uploaded to the FAQ of this site, and to the Piazza. Please follow the instructions carefully, and complete HW0 as soon as possible. We remind you that the publication date of HW1 is the 28/3, four days from now - it is important to complete the HW0 warm-up by that time, so you'd be adequately equipped to handle the HW1 assignment. |

Recitations this semester
Dear students, All recitations besides one will be held this week. Yotam's first recitation, scheduled for Thursday, is canceled due to the Purim holiday. Please follow the Course Schedule on the course site. A note on recitation material: ▸ Recitation slides might change over the semester, with small tweaks added here and there. Please take this into account before printing all slides. We suggest using a laptop in the recitations, and adding to the already vast amount of comments in the slide margins. ▸ Furthermore, please notice that some of the slides of the material are in purple, and hidden. These were removed from the recitation to shorten it a bit, and allow for the TAs to finish the recitation on time. They are split into two categories: Self-Read (mandatory), Extra credit (non-mandatory). Extra credit slides will be clearly marked with "העשרה". |
