Dear students, I kindly invite you to my M.Sc. final seminar talk. Lecture topic: Autonomous Robot Navigation Lector: Magid Evgeni, Applied Mathematics Supervisors: Assoc.Prof. Daniel Keren, Computer Science, University of Haifa Assoc.Prof. Ehud Rivlin, Computer Science, Technion Date: 12.02.2006 Time: 14:30-15:30 Place: Taub 701 Abstract: Motion planning is concerned with automatic planning of a collision-free path between initial and final configurations. The classical motion planning problem, termed the piano movers problem, is defined for complete a priori information about the obstacles in the environment. However, autonomous robots which operate in the real world, rather than in a structured workspace, cannot rely on a priori knowledge due to the dynamic and unpredictable nature of typical scenarios. In the situation when no map is available, the robot depends on its sensors in order to perceive the environment and plan accordingly. In the lecture I will present two new motion planning algorithms: the first algorithm deals with a piano movers problem, while the second solves a sensor-based motion planning problem. PS: in addition to an interesting and simple talk on our course topic, it may be a good opportunity for appeals after the seminar, especially if you succeed to ask interesting non-trivial questions. I will specify the exact time for the appeals after the talk. |

Project: code example and makefile clarifications
|
1. The main idea of publishing the example of one of the previous years solutions was to discard the advantage of the students which have previous years references, even though the project's Algorithm is completely different each year. 2. The provided example uses OLD LIBRARIES of the simulator, which contained bugs. It would not compile with new provided libraries. 3. The example is just a coarse example, which may be helpful or not. Your code still could be based on it, but YOU are responsible to fix the bugs within the example (there are!) if you want to reuse a part of the code. 4. To find a right path for libraries within the MAKEFILE please contact the helpdesk/administrator of the UNIX/LINUX system you use for a project - it is DIFFERENT for each particular version of the system. It would be nice if after figuring out the details of your particular system and checking that it really works you send this information to me. I will publish it on the WEB for other students usage. 5. The submission will be presonal and during the submission we will fix the MAKEFILE information together so that it will compile and run on the platform I check the project (CSD). |

The homeworks are checked and the results+hardcopy will be available in the beginning of the week. The following mistakes are common to many students and the points for those mistakes will not be returned : HW3 - the sub-questions on the workspaces was NOT A BONUS. If you solved it yourself you had noticed that the word bonus is stroke by a line. It was mentioned in the tutorial as well. HW5 - question 2: The wall of the room is an obstacle too and thus produces a CB-obstacle. question 5b: the edges of TG which coincide with the edges of the obstacles were not drawn (each picture was examined thoroughly before taking the decision if the particular edge presents or not) If you appeal on american questions, please first read FAQ carefully and prepare the proofs of your (different) answer from the book/lecture/tutorial with an exact reference to the page+paragraph+sentence. Submit your appeal in a written form to the box of Evgeni, 5-th floor. |

BUG family algorithms clarification: Leaving point
|
Dear students, The Leaving point for Bug2, Alg1 and Alg2 is on the line SEGMENT (start, target), and NOT on the straight infinite line (i.e. from both directions) as was told on the last tutorial. For the details see the paper for the project, paragraph 2 in section 3.2 p.1931 and paragraph 1 in section 4.2 p.1932, examples of the algorithm see page 1934, figures 4 and 5. |
