Dear students, The course schedule and assigned papers have been set, and can be found under the course material tab. Notice that class will not take place this Monday (which we were supposed to treat as Thursday...) After one more lecture I will give on background material (next Thursday), each subsequent week of class is planned to have two talks with a common theme. You should have also received an email from me to help coordinate with your week's other speaker to discuss cross-references between the talks. Expect another email from me about 3 weeks before your talk to coordinate the meetings before your talk. Looking forward to a continued enlightening and interactive seminar. Best, David |

Back in person + paper preferences

Dear students, Dear students, Looking forward to interacting with you in-person this Thursday and in future weeks, in Taub 3. As a reminder: please email me your paper preference list to me by mail by tomorrow, May 12th, including Thursdays you *cannot* teach this semester. For this week's lesson: we'll pick up where we left off, and discuss algorithms drawn from known distributions, but this time compare to the optimal *online* algorithm, which is similar to a philosopher with enough time to think. We will also discuss tips for paper reading and talk preparation + presentation. See you there, Course Staff |

Theory Social

Dear students, I would like to advertise the Theory Seminar, and its social edition, which will take place next Wednesday at 13:00, in Taub 401. The seminar takes place Wednesdays 13:00-14:00 in Taub 401. Usually food is available from 12:45, followed by a talk by an invited speaker. Next week the "invited speakers" are all the theory group and friends, broadly construed: Students, postdocs and faculty members with interests in theory get to chat over lunch and then briefly introduce themselves and their interests to the group in a round table. A gong may or may not be used to enforce time :-) See the theory seminar website for more information, and a link to join the mailing list for future announcements. Schedule for (hopefully just the) first few weeks

Dear students, I hope you and your families are doing well. I wanted to supply some level of certainty about the course plan for the first few week, beyond what the Technion is providing: Lectures: - Will be conducted over zoom, at least for the first two weeks. For the zoom link, see the course tab, under my lecture information. - I will teach the first four weeks, so hopefully we can move to in-person lectures for the student presentations, or even sooner. - If a lecture is interrupted due to sirens where the presenter is, the lesson might be paused, in which case the recording will be continued later. - To help in case you cannot attend for whatever reason or have sirens in your area during the lesson, I will upload recordings after each lesson. - Lecture slides will be made available before each of my lessons. - If you can attend lessons, I highly recommend you do so, and ask that you turn your cameras on and participate. Interactive discussions should help the speaker understand what points to clarify and help you internalize the topics and common tricks, which should help you when reading your presented papers.
