Dear students, The grades for Moed A are available. A partial solution can be found in the course material section. We were happy to see that the average is quite high (considering the high averages of the assignments) even though the exam was not easy. A few comments: 1. The scans will probably be available early next week. We will explain the appealing policy when the scans are published. 2. Following an email from your representative, we decided to cancel the statement regarding the Kernel-PCA in the multiple-choice part. Students who lost 2pts there got them back retroactively (the scans will show the previous grade). 3. Material for the exams | |

Dear students, The exam will take place on Tuesday, 12.07, at 09:00. Structure: Mostly similar to the three previous semesters. Earlier exams are less relevant but can still help you prepare. Duration: 3 hours. Extra material: None (closed-books exam). Calculator: Allowed (but probably not needed). Material for the exam: everything from the lectures, tutorials, and homework. When solving exams from previous years, keep in mind that there might be differences between semesters. For example, topics we did not learn in this semester: * Clustering (k-means, EM) * Generative models * Specific small topics: LDA, Sauer–Shelah lemma * Evaluation metrics (AUC, ROC, Recall & Precision) For example, topics we focused on more than in some previous semesters: * Multinomial logistic regression * Optimization and convexity * Dimensionality reduction In our exam, you will not be required to write code in Python. We also do not expect you to memorize every formula we've seen to its finest details. However, you should thoroughly understand concepts such as gradient descent, convexity, bias-variance, etc. Good luck! |

Dear students, Some corrections/clarifications were made to the assignment (please redownload instructions; changes are highlighted in purple). 1. In Part 4, there was a typo saying that you should work with PCR_08 and PCR_01 (which made no sense). However, you should actually work with PCR_08 and PCR_10 like you do in Part 1. 2. When we instruct you to retrain on "the entire training set", we mean you should use all the training samples (rather than using all features). We updated the assignment to make it clearer. Submissions in singles will *not* be graded and will greatly lower your final grade. 2. Following our strict prerequisite policy, early next week we will cancel the registration of students without appropriate perquisites, including students who recently failed the probability course. Dear students, Major assignment 1 (out of 3) is now available in the assignment section. It is due by Sunday 08.05.2022 at 23:59. Submission is in pairs *only*. The assignment is mandatory and its grade is worth 8.33% of the final grade. We trust you to solve it solely with your partner. The assignment concentrates on data exploration and data preparation. All three major assignments will handle the same data, so, the insights you will gain in this assignment will help you throughout the two other assignments. A few remarks: 1. Stay calm. There are many ways to tackle and solve this assignment. You are assessed based on your report, reasoning and explanations. We do not expect a very specific set of decisions from your side. You can be creative. 2. Don’t get stuck on the first questions, e.g., typing of columns. If you’re not sure, guess and then come back later after you have finished your analysis and become more informed. It is common in ML projects rerun the different parts of the notebook several times (one of the reasons we use jupyter). 3. Your objective is to minimize "garbage" in your dataset. Do this by imputing missing data, throwing out meaningless features, and creating new and meaningful ones. Always keep in mind: "how would this feature affect a learning model (e.g. kNN or decision tree)?". Best regards |

Course materials are written in English. Classes will be held in Hebrew. Exams - in Hebrew. If you need an English exam, please contact the course email soon. 5. The course is not based on a single book. We do offer some references to prominent literature in the syllabus, and we may refer to relevant chapters as the course progresses. 6.
