New course in Distributed Graph Coloring and Beyond. Yannic Maus, a Postdoc of Prof. Keren Censor-Hillel, is giving a course on distributed graph coloring next semester. The course can be seen as a follow up to the distributed computing course that she teaches. The course starts with classic and old results that you might already know from the distributed computing course and advances to much more recent algorithms. The focus of the course is in introducing different techniques to solve classic graph problems in the distributed setting and graph coloring is the prime example to illustrate these. The course will be taught in English, there will be no exam and grades will be made up of a project (80%) and written lecture notes (20 %, one 2hour lecture per student). The official course number is 236622, the course will take place on Thursdays in Taub 8 and the lecture will only start in the second week of the semester (31st of October). Best, Yannic |

Next week instead of the regular lecture and tutorial, we will have 2 guest talks on the same time and place of the lecture and tutorial. On Wednesday 12.6, 10:30, Yuval Efron would talk about near-quadratic lower bounds for vertex cover and maximum independent set. On Thursday 13.6, 14:30, Matthias Bonne would talk about distributed detection of cliques in dynamic networks. The office hours next week are canceled. |
