Hi, Due to popular demand, we have decided to release a small hint for question 1, section a. Try to use the following claim (you do not have to prove it although its proof is extremely short): Let F(x) be a function and let f(x) be its derivative. Assume that f(x) is a monotone non-decreasing function in the interval [a,b] (a and b are integers). Then f(a+1)+...+f(b) >= F(b)-F(a) P.S. In section a of question 1, you may assume for convenience that k divides D (if it helps...) |
