Final report | |

Hi all, As your projects are coming to their conclusion, you are required to submit a final report including more or less an account for everything you achieved during this past semester. The report should include the following: a. All documented code + a document explaining (briefly) all the components, what they do and how to use them b. Raw results (in some accepted format such as excel) + brief explanation (so that we know how to read it) c. A summarizing report which should include: 1. A description of the project's objective. 2. A summary of your work (what you did, what succeeded and what didn't) 3. A summary of the interesting results (as presented in your presentation) 4. Final conclusions + possible future directions Since much of our evaluation of your work relies on this report, I suggest you put some thought into it. You may submit it by mail, or by disk to my mbox (#117). Submission is due Thursday, Sept. 15. We will give no further extensions without very good cause. Good luck, --course staff |

The new assignment is as follows: Sunday 27.8 - Andrey and Victor Igor and Chen Inon Tuesday 29.8 - Oren and Shira Tal and Shai The time and place remains (16:30 in Taub 337). Hello all, We set dates for the final presentations, and assigned each group a date: Sunday 27.8 - Andrey and Victor Tal and Shai Inon Tuesday 29.8 - Oren and Shira Igor and Chen Both presentations will take place at 16:30 in Taub 337. Hello all, We are undergoing somewhat uncertain times, and this uncertainty affects our final presentations as well. As the Technion returned to work we will try to set a date in the near future. It will not be before next week, and you'll get a week's notice anyway. We'll check the status with the Technion's official policy and let you know. Presentations and final report | |

Hello all, Regarding your presentations next week, plan them for 30 minutes + time for questions. You are also encouraged to ask questions as a participating audience. Your presentations should include: 1. A short description of the project specification. 2. A short description of your implementation (no code is necessary). 3. A detailed description of experiments / result / conclusions. The presentation should focus on the 3rd part (except project II - "fast algorithms", where some focus should be put on implementation). Please send us your presentation a day or two in advance for review (even if it is not complete). Regarding your final report (due August 7), it should include the WELL DOCUMENTED code, and a short document describing how to execute the code. Then main part of the report is a summarizing report which should include the same parts as your presentation, only fully written. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. Hello all, First, we'd like to remind you that you're all expected to come to the presentation this Tuesday (4.7) at 16:30 in Taub 337 (faculty council hall). There will be only one presentation, and some announcements by us. The other presentations will be given at two separate dates: Sunday 16.7 and Wednesday 19.7. (again at 16:30 in Taub 337). We will assign each group with a presentation date according to the constraints we got from you. Note that you have about 2 weeks to conclude your projects and create the presentations. Hello all, To those of you who will be presenting on July 4th, please contact me sometime early next week to discuss what you are expected to present. The others will be presenting their work sometime before July 20th. Please send us your constraints for that period, so that we can set a date and time. If we don't hear from you, we'll have to assume you have no constraints. Anyway, you are reminded you have limited time to finish your work, so please take this into account. Final Submission and Presentation | |

Hello all, Due to some students' request we are considering moving up the presentations to the end of July, or end of the examination period (rather than the final two weeks of the semester). We will do this only if this is OK with all of you, so we need you ALL to send Ilan (ilangr@cs) an e-mail saying if this is OK with you or not. Please do so by the end of this week so that we can make the necessary arrangements. We need you to send a mail also if this is OK with you, so we know we reached everyone. Progress report | |

As you may have noticed, this week you are all supposed to report your progress. I suggest that each team contact me later this week (preferably by phone - 8294894) to give me a summarized report. If you have additional questions, you can set a meeting. After discussing your progress, we will set a meeting for sometime diruing the next 2 weeks, where you can visually present your progress (i.e. show me your implementation, experimental results etc..) I urge you to contact me sooner rather than later, just to make sure you are on the right track. Ilan. |

Data sets available under 'material' section | |

Three data sets (24_small, 24_moderate and 24_large) were added to the 'material' section. All data sets contain instances over 24 taxa. Each tree is scaled in 3 ways (small, moderate and large). Note that not all groups have to use all files in each data set. Use the data sets according to the specification we discussed for your workplan. For instance, if you are required to use SeqGen to generate sequences, you only need to use the tree file. Note that the tree file is identical in the three data sets (only the scaling changes).
