summer crash course on FPGA programming

Dear MAMAS students, In http://goo.gl/gyQkG you can find the syllabus of a 1-week crash course that will take place during the summer and will teach students to work with FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays). Roughly speaking, an FPGA allows you to design, implement, and deploy your own chip, exclusively using software. As programming FPGAs can be *very* hard, this course specifically focuses on Bluespec, a high level synthesis language that makes FPGAs much easier to work with and ensures that the work is portable across different platforms. FPGAs nowadays constitute an extremely hot topic in industry as well as in academic systems research, so the course is highly recommended. In order to register, please submit the relevant form to Keren from the Mazkirut of EE no later than Thursday, July 12, 2012. Note that the number of participants is limited to 25 students due to the limited availability of the relevant hardware. Best, --Dan |

HW3 was checked,and graded. Note that the dry grade was marked with a grade of 0-75, yet the dry part has a weight of 66%. The overall HW3 grade takes it into consideration. The test that was executed on HW3 was a very basic one. If you wish to appeal on the wet part - come to Nadav's reception hour. |

The wet part was a simple counting loop. A wide variety of answers was accepted. Those of you who got zero can see the code and their results during the reception hours. |

Clarification for Gil’s students.

There were not supposed to be tutorials yesterday for my group. I said so orally in the class before I left and forgot to post a clarification about it. I am sorry for the confusion. Gil’s Students will pass the last tutorial (TLB) this Monday (25.12). Students that have difficulties submitting the homework on time can contact me after the tutorial and receive an alternative submission date. Good luck in the exams, Gil. |

HW1 was checked and graded. 75 points were given for the dry part, 25 for the wet. As a matter of fact, as Q3 was described as 10 points question, you got 15 for free... The wet part was checked using 2 tests. The first one was identical to the multiply.asm. The second one was _slightly_ different. If you failed it, it means you didn't take care of sign-extension correctly. 15 points were given for the first test, 10 for the second. If you got points deducted you can see in the following link why: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pD7R8zY3LXzHfZ99Y7THho7mdENpE-8A7LGpxbBfu4k/edit The published grade does not include deduction of points for late submission. This deduction will be performed later this week. As for HW #2 wet part checks - You should not be affected unless you failed miserably in both tests. Appeals can be either sent by email or discussed during Nadav's reception hour. |

HW1 - Wet Correction and Clarification

Correction: 2 Small corrections were made to the files in the wet assignment: 1. The compiler didn't compile unconditional branches correctly (i.e., set all NZP flags). 2. In lc3.cpp (the file you need to change) - The zero flags should be set when machine state is initialized (instead of cleared). Therefore, please use the updated compiler.cpp, and if you already started to do HW, update lc3.cpp in the following manner: LC3::LC3() : flags(Z_FLAG), pc(0) Clarification: Do not make your life too hard by trying to think of any possible LC3 control signal and set it in the signals struct during the decode phase. You are expected to do some basic processing of the instruction during the decode phase that will actually make your life _easier_ later on. For this matter - breaking the instruction to its different fields (opcode, etc.) is compulsory. |
