Moed B grades published | |

The Moed B grades have been published. A factor of 10%+5 was given to the exam grade. Below you can find the final course statistics and grades histogram. Appeals will be accepted until 16/4. - If you wish to appeal, send an email to Assaf with the subject line Moed B - Appeal. - Explain your claims specifically. Note, that upon appeal the entire exam will be re-examined and points may be deducted. - Please write in 1-3 lines (per problem) explaining the reason for your appeal. (Writing extra text and pleas does not help your appeal anyway) - You cannot appeal on the amount of points reduced. The grades key is not going to change. - Do not attach a scan of your test unless asked by the TA. - Do not forget to write your name and ID. - You may of course, schedule an appointment with one of the TAs if you wish to consult with them prior to an appeal. Students who will be retaking the course due to their grade. Please note that exercise of the Spring semester is due at 5/4. However, if you took moed B and wish to retake this course, you will get an extension until 12.4 at 17:30. Please contact the TA-in-charge in the spring semester about it (Alex). Moed B will be held on Monday 26/3 at 17:30 in Ulman. The exam has 5 questions, and will cover most of the course material. Prior to the exam the TAs will hold special reception hours. In addition we will hold a special tutorial on Thursday, in which we will solve a few exam questions and talk about solving techniques and how to prepare for the exam. You're welcome to bring exam/material questions for this tutorial. Moed A Exam - Policy change and statistics | |

Hello, 1. After reconsidering, we decided to deviate from the course policy and apply the homeworks grade for all students in full (whether they've passed the exam or not). This means, that if you've failed the exam, your final grade is no longer bound to 54. You can see your new grade in the Grades system. UG will be updated in a few days. 2. According to a new Technion policy we are publishing some statistics for Moed A exam. The average grade in the exam was 62.27, while the median was 62.6. The standard deviation was 21.4. These numbers are revealed in order to help you make the educated decision of whether to attend Moed B or not. After Moed B, we will also publish the Final grades average and histogram. 3. Due to a technical problem during the exams scan, a batch of 10-15 exams were not scanned. If you don't see your exam in the UG website, please contact Dorit Asa, the UG secretary in the faculty. The grades for the exam have been published and you should be able to see them now. There was a factor and the final grade is calculated as follows: Let X be your exam grade, and H be your HW average. Y = 1.2*X+5 //This is the exam factor if (Y > 54) Final_grade = Min(0.7*Y+0.3*H , 100) else Final grade = Min(0.7*Y+0.3*H , 54) This means that if your grade after factor (Y) was below 55 you cannot pass the course. The exams will be brought to the secretariat soon and scans should be available soon afterwards. For any questions regarding the scanning please approach the secretariat. A formal solution of the exam is now available under the course material page. Appeals: If you wish to appeal send your appeal by e-mail to Assaf only. You MUST follow these rules: - The subject of the mail will be "Moed A - Appeal" - The appeal should be submitted before 19.3. - Make sure the email contains your name and ID. - You cannot appeal over the amount of points reduced over a mistake. - You may appeal over mistakes you think were made by the checker. - Please write in 1-3 lines (per problem) the reason for your appeal. (Writing extra text and pleas does not help your appeal anyway) - Do NOT attach the scan to your mail. - In case of an unjustified appeal the entire exam might be checked again and points may be reduced. You can find the error codes of the wet part under the assignments section. A file with all the tests and results should be sent to your e-mail (if you have already submitted it). The results of the automatic check are in test.results and the error codes of the dry check are in a file named <ids>_errors.txt. If something is wrong with your grade you can mail Carmi for questions/appeals, however: - You need to know what's wrong with your grade (sent wrong files, missing dry submission etc.). You cannot just tell me by mail that you think your grade should be higher. You can see the complete details of your grade in the files sent. - You cannot appeal on the results of the automatic checker. The only two exceptions to this case, are (a) You sent the wrong files and have a working version on the t2 with a correct time stamp to prove you had a working exercise in time. (b) Your code failed to compile, and only requires a one-line fix. For example: missing/wrong includes. In this case, you may make small corrections, but we will deduce 5 points from your grade. |

Hello all, Moed A will take place in a couple of weeks, so it is a good time to share some info about the exam procedures and structure:
The course staff will hold special reception hours before the exam: Sunday 12/2, 16:30-18:30 - Carmi Monday 13/2, 14:30-16:30 - Assaf Tuesday 14/2, 10:30-12:30 - Omer Wednesday 15/2, 12:30-14:30 - Sabih The reception hours will be held in the TAs rooms. In cases of large attendance we may move to a class, in which case we'll post an announcement. You may bring exam questions and/or material questions which we will try and answer. Prof' Barequet will meet students on request basis. I want to take this opportunity and wish you all good luck in your upcoming exams. Assaf |

Hello all, During the automatic check of assignment 3, we've noticed that many of you did not test your scripts as explained in the assignment description. Many scripts did not passed the automatic check, because of a few basic errors in submission procedures and/or script code. Therefor, we've decided to allow an optional re-submission of assignment 3, for the next 24 hours. You should make sure your submission confirms with the following: - All files are without file extensions (no .txt, etc.) - Make sure your files are submitted in Unix format. Use the dos2unix command if needed. - You should not set the path variable within scripts. - You should not call helper scripts, assuming they are in the current folder. Make sure you are not calling scripts with ./ The path variable will be set only once, outside the scripts, by us. Note that you will not be able to appeal the results if your scripts do not confirm to these rules! |

Assignment 3 - Submission | |

Hello all, The deadline for assignment 3 is two days from now, so it is a good time to remind you some important things you should check before submitting: 1. Please make sure you submit a .ZIP file (not .rar, .7z, etc). 2. The .ZIP file should only contain you scripts (including all helper scripts). Meaning no folders at all. 3. Although we double check, please make sure you have execution permissions for all scripts and helper scripts. 4. The script names should be as stated in the assignment. Meaning collect_grades and not collect_grades.txt or collectGrades or any other permutation. The same goes for all the other scripts. 5. Make sure each script begins with #!/bin/tcsh -f 6. Test, Test, Test & then Test again !! And make sure it all works on the stud server. Test it on the server even if you did the smallest change before submitting. Editing scripts in windows and moving them as-is to Unix, often results in them not working. 7. Finally, make sure your printouts are exactly as stated in the assignment. Even one character off could fail the automatic check. You will not be able to appeal the check! Lastly, I urge you to try and finish the assignment before the deadline. Keep enough safety margin for small touches and/or bug fixes, and use the remaining reception hours for any last minute questions you might have. Good luck! Assaf |

You can find your grades using the grades link at the website. There you'll find your Wet & Dry grades, as well as the grade for the Manual check of the code. Also, if you want to receive a detail breakdown of your grade make sure you send us your email address via the assignments page (no need, if you've done so already). The grades key will be published shortly in the assignments section. You can appeal the dry and manual check via email to Nitzan. You cannot appeal the Wet grade unless your code did not compiled (See grades breakdown), in which case if this is a minor error (e.g. missing files, some warning, small mistake < 3 lines of code) you can email Sabih and/or come to the reception hours. |

Due to the TSO strike the following complementary tutorials are scheduled: Monday 7/11, Taub 7 17:30-19:30 - Omer will give tutorial #1 for his (Wednesday) group and Sabih (Tuesday) group Sunday 13/11, Taub 9 16:30-18:30 - Assaf will give tutorial #3 for ALL students. Hello all, I'm happy to announce that the TSO has declared the end of the strike. Therefor the course tutorials will resume effective immediately. Complimentary tutorials will be scheduled and announced within the next few days. Also, assignment #0 deadline has been postponed to 16/11. |

Please note that tomorrow's lecture will take place in Ulman 707, and not in Sego 1. Currently, this is a one-time change. The course TA staff, which belongs to the junior teaching staff association, will not hold tutorials until the declared strike is over. We will keep you posted as things develop. |

On behalf of the course staff I'm pleased to welcome you to the Intro. to System Programming (AKA Matam) course. This notice, and future a like, are presented in the course website, and will also be sent to you by email, if you're registered to the course mailing list. Note that if you've gotten this announcement by email, then you're already registered to the mailing list. You can always add yourself to it by registering to the course via the grades system. You can find quite a lot of helpful material under the "Course Material" section in the course website, including the lectures and tutorial slides. You can use the "Find a partner" section to find partners for the homework assignments. The lecture hours, the office hours and the email addresses of the staff appear in the "Staff" section. Please contact us if you have any problems and we will do our best to resolve them. Under the Assignment section, you can find an optional assignment which is designed to get you familiar with the course unix environment, as well as with the automatic submission system. Please note that in the first week Omer's tutorial will be given by Assaf. We wish you all a fruitful and enjoyable semester. |
