Dear 234111 Intro-To-CS student, Your final result in Moed-B exam has just been published. Final_Exam_B is your score in the exam and Final_B is your final score in the course (including HW). Please note that according to Technion's regulations, in case you participated in Moed-B, it will be your final score in the course no matter whether your score in Moed-A was higher or not. Appeals can be submitted until the 20/4 (after the passover vacation) into Zachi's mailbox in the fifth floor of Taub building. All appeals must include a detailed appeal form (may be downloaded from the course web-site) with your comments such as: the sum of points is not correct, the checker comment is not correct, etc. You may not appeal on the number of points that were reduced on an incorrect answer and such appeals will not be answered. Dear Intro-To-CS student, Your final result in the Moed_A exam has just been published. Your exam is in the process of being scanned and should be available to you through the GR site shortly. Note, this is not your final score in the course since it has to be averaged with your homework assignments achievements (90% exam + 10% hw). The final scores will be published in the beginning of next week. Appeals on the exam's score can be submitted up to two weeks from today (until the 12/3) to Gal Lavee's mailbox in the fifth floor of Taub building. The appeals will be considered in two rounds: those that will be submitted until 5/3 will be answered by 10/3 and those that will be submitted afterwards will be answered by 17/3. All appeals must include: A detailed appeal form (may be downloaded from the course web-site) with your comments such as: the sum of points is not correct, the checker comment is not correct, etc. Note that you cannot appeal on the number of points that were reduced on an incorrect answer! Dear students, Some hints: Question 1a: For each entry in the helper array, you should put anumber between 1 and len. However, there are some numbers you cannot put there - namely those that have already been written in previous entries in the array. Think of how you can determine, for a specific number, if it can be legally placed in some entry in the array. Question 1b: Think of a permutation of a string as a permutation of the entries ("taim") of an array that holds this string. Each entry can be represented by its index ( 0 to strlen(str)-1 ). Do you know how to permute the numbers 0 to strlen(str)-1 ? Question 2: You can use the following beginning of a function: int calc( char* s, int* helper ) { if( isdigit( s[0] ) ) { char c = s[0] - '0'; *helper = 1; return c; } else { And last - some FAQ - 1) According to the assignment, you must not modify any function prototype ("hatima shel funkzia"). For example, you must not add more parameters to "calc". 2) No, you don't have to use the helper array. 3) The order in which you print things in Q1 must be exactly like the one the provided exe file prints in. 4) The ordering of the array in question Q3 can be anything you'd like, so long the requirements of Q3 are met. 5) You can assume the input is correct. In particular, "calc" will never be required to deal with strings not that do not represent expressions, as defined in the assignment. |

Dear students, Carmi would like to make an extended last tutorial, in which he'll cover the end of the course material, and if time is left, will also solve some questions from past exams. Options for extensions are: 1) Start at 10:30 instead of 12:30, finish at 14:30 2) Start at 11:30 instead of 12:30, finish at 14:30 3) Start at 12:30, end whenever it ends (at most 16:30) If any of Carmi's students cannot attend one of the first two options, please email him. General guidance for HW and exam questions | |

Due to many complaints that we received in the last few days, I would like to clarify the following issue: Before publishing HW exercises or an exam, we are doing our best to remove any ambiguity from the questions. Nevertheless, regardless to our huge efforts, ambiguity does occur and it is brought to our attention only during the HW period or during the exam. This requires us to release F.A.Qs and revisions to the questions, which we are doing to better clarify the questions and to reduce the efforts required solving them. In any case, the original question, as it was published, is always valid and a proper answer to it will give a full credit. In order to better handle ambiguity, you are entitled to and should take any reasonable assumptions that will assist you to solve the question. The assumptions must be valid and must not contradict the question itself, the material we learned in class (C language rules) and of course general knowledge and mathematical rules (for example: an assumption that 6 is an odd number will not be accepted). You should write your assumptions in the beginning of your answer and as long that your assumptions are valid and your answer is correct you will receive the proper credit for your work. Using #define vs const | |

Dear students, In the lectures we introduced the terms "const" and "#define" and discussed the differences between them. While "const" allocates a variable, "#define" is handled purely by the pre-processor and each instance of it is replaced. Based on the feedbacks I receive from your TAs, I understand that this was not fully understood and therefore I would like to emphasis the followings: Both ways (const and #define) are valid and you can use them, both, in your assignments as long as it compiles under dev-cpp (and your program is correct). The use of "const" is more modern and from my personal point of view it is much more elegant and brings advantages which are not in the scope of this course. Just to make clear, "#define" is part of the C language. However, it is not handled by the compiler itself, but by a pre-processing stage as I showed in class. Your tutorials are mostly based on the"#define" notation and therefore in the lectures we will try to bring more of the "const" side, since we see it important that you will understand both ways.
