Hi guys, HW3 was graded - nice job. Common causes for point deduction: (*) Late submission - two groups submitted late. 3 points were deducted for each late day (Friday + Saturday were considered one day). (*) Missing Sec 2.2 - for some reason, two groups did not give any details on Sec 2.2 which caused 10 points to be deducted. Other than that, individual comments were given on returned pdfs. If you did not get a pdf back with comments - nothing to report ;-). Hope you enjoyed the exam yesterday, I'll try to grade it ASAP. Oren |

Hi guys, I am sorry to say that I won't be able to be present during the exam. I got COVID last week and was hoping to be well enough to attend the exam in person but that's not the case. Hi guys, The exam will take place on Tuesday Feb 15th, at Taub 6th between 13:00 - 16:00. (*) There will be both Hebrew and English copies of the exam. (*) No auxiliary materials may be used during the exam. Final course evaluation | |
Hi guys, After thinking a lot about it, I wanted to update you that the final evaluation of the course will be done via an exam as planned. I know that for many reasons you requested that I consider alternative evaluation options. I went through a lot of options and could not find one that was better given all the constraints (I shared with you some of my thoughts at the begining of last lecture). So to summarize, we will meet each other in person on the 15th. To (somewhat) ease your mind, less students will be assigned per room and everyone will be wearing a mask. Best, Oren |

Competition evaluation | |
We received inquiries regarding the competition grading formula, so we wanted to clarify: We will use 3 new maps that you were not given. For each map, your code will be tested for a set of different coverage values and the time to compute said coverage values recorded. All computation times will be averaged over the same set of random seeds to make it a fair comparison. Path length is not going to be evaluated. The exact amount of points given to each coverage value will be decided upon tests completion, and the winners will be those that will be able to complete the tests in the best way, under the shortest execution time. |

Bug fix in edge validation | |
We were informed that a check to verify that the robot do not collide with the boundaries of the map during motion was missing. We updated the supplied code with the missing check (MapEnvironment.py line 145). The updated code is supplied for your convenience only and is not mandatory (for grading and/or competition). Clarification regarding HW3 | |
In 2.4 (inspection planning): Your algorithm should mark inspected points only when reaching a configuration, and NOT during motion between two configurations. For example: If in building the RRT tree, there are inspection points that are visible to the robot during the motion from config1 to config2, but are not visible from config1 or from config2, then they should not be counted as inspected points in the newly added vertex. Hi, You are all wlecomed to join the following talk which is given by Dr. Kiril Solovey as part of the Technion Robotics Seminar (https://technion.zoom.us/j/95446727090). The talk will be at 15:00. Additional details can be found in the seminar's webpage: https://tasp.technion.ac.il/news-events/ TITLE: Large-scale multi-robot systems: From algorithmic foundations to smart-mobility applications ABSTRACT: Multi-robot systems are already playing a crucial role in various domains such as manufacturing and warehouse automation. In the future, these systems will be incorporated into our daily lives through drone-delivery services and smart-mobility systems that comprise thousands of autonomous vehicles, to give a few examples. The anticipated benefits of multi-robot systems are numerous, ranging from increased safety and efficiency, to broader societal facets such as sustainability. However, to reap those rewards we must develop algorithms that can adapt rapidly to unexpected changes on a massive scale. Importantly, these algorithms must capture (i) dynamical and collision-avoidance constraints of individual robots, (ii) interactions between multiple robots, and (iii), more broadly, the interaction of those systems with their environment. These considerations give rise to extremely complex and high-dimensional optimization problems that need to be solved in real-time. In this talk, I will present progress on the design of systematic control and decision-making mechanisms to allow the effective, and societally-equitable deployment of multi-robot systems. I will highlight results on fundamental capabilities for multi-robot systems (e.g., motion planning and task allocation), as well as applications in smart-mobility systems. I will also discuss challenges and opportunities for smart mobility in addressing societal issues, including traffic congestion and fairness. |
