In exceptional cases, we will allow 1 or 3 students to work on project. You need to fill a google form https://forms.gle/9mDB1G4KyyhvC2nP7 with your project's preferences. If you're interested in custom project and have an idea, please contact us ASAP. In this case you'll need to make a presentation of your idea earlier and get our approval based on presentation. We will not allow projects which are performed as part of other academic activity (e.g., project course or part of ongoing research towards thesis). Please still fill the preferences form in case your project won't be approved. Project timeline (dates imply until 23:59 at this day): 1, Filling the preferences until 18.06. 2. Project allocation by course stuff by 20.06 3. Definition presentation, including entire project timeline, datasets, and tentative experiment plan. The presentations will be held in the last week of the semester, 27.06-1/07. For custom project, presentations will be held next week. 4. Homework 1 extension. | |
| We've got multiple complains regarding runtime of the experiment. First of all, you don't need to wait for the full training length to evaluate the performance of feature extractor. In tutorial, we discussed the approaches to evaluation during the training. I've tested the reference implementation I've used for baseline score, and it took ~0.5 second per batch on lambda server. I'd expect you implementation to be not more than twice slower than the reference one. That means you should be able to run ~100000 in a bit more than one day. In case your implementation is significantly slower than that, I suggest you to spend some time finding the bottlenecks in your implementation. In general, I believe that having 5-10x slower implementation is not proper reproduction of the paper (and the points probably will be deduced for that). Thus, there will be not extension on grounds of necessity to run more multiple-day experiments. However, we understand that the runtime issue could have been not clear for everyone and cost you some time. Thus, there is a general 2-day extension (until Sunday evening) for HW1 submission. People who got personal extension can have this extension in addition to personal one (e.g., if your personal deadline was Tuesday, it's Thursday now).
