Hi all, A few announcements: 1. tomorrow's lecture will also be held over zoom. Since I think it's likely that the following lectures will also be zoom only, I'll only make an announcement if the lectures are physical. 2. I've posted HW3. The due date is in 2 weeks. 3. This will be the last homework set of the semester. We will be using the material from the first question in the exercise in the lecture that is 8 days from now so please try to read (and think about) it beforehand. Best of health to all, Ron |

Hi all, A couple of updates: 1. in question 3, you may assume that the group has prime order (i.e., q is prime). 2. same question: it's OK if your extractor runs in *expected* polynomial-time. Hi all, I just posted a short summary with necessary background for the next lecture on "statistical distance" - an important notion of distance between probability distributions. The material covered in the document is basic and not complicated but you should familiarize yourself with it. Shafik will also give a tutorial on it on Sunday at 4:30 (and has also offered to answer any questions on the material that we've covered so far that you might have).
