Next lecture still in Zoom, and more | |
| Due to constraints (that are unrelated to the air conditioning), we will have to hold the lecture this week (tomorrow), too, via Zoom. Also, here is the planned upcoming schedule in the course, as we approach the end of the semester. There will be no lecture on 23 June 2021 (the home exam will be held during that week). We are planning to hand out examples of previous exams shortly. More instructions about the home exam will be posted next week. The last lecture in the course will be on 30 June 2021 and will be in the format of a seminar talk. Please make plans to attend this lecture (in class or via Zoom). |

Summary of the state-splitting algorithm | |
| Under the material of Lecture 10, you will find a summary of the state-splitting algorithm, along with some comments (written in the footnotes). Some of the comments were mentioned in the last lecture. The algorithm is stated there to produce as output an “(S,n)-encoder” (while Figure 5.9 on page 151 uses the formulation of a “rate p:q encoder for S”). We will see the algorithm for computing approximate eigenvectors in the upcoming lecture, but you can start doing the parts of Home Assignment 4 where the approximate eigenvectors are actually true eigenvectors. |

| 1. A link to the recording of Lecture 01 can be found under “Course Material”. The camera was not positioned correctly during the last 7 minutes, so you can also look at the recording made last year. 2. There will be up to two make-up classes in the course (one is due to the home exam and the other due to יום יזמות ויריד תעסוקה). Please reserve Sunday, 11 April 2020 and Sunday, 25 April 2020 at 16:30–18:30 for these lectures. The lectures will take place at Taub 4. 3. There are currently three possible options for the dates of the home exam: (a) 28 June–01 July, (b) 23–27 June, (c) 22–25 June. Please indicate your preference by filling out the poll form under “Course Material” by Tuesday, 06 April 2021. Happy Passover! |
