Exam A Grades + Appeal policy | |

Hi all, I've marked the exam and published the (factored) grades. I will send the notebooks for scanning tomorrow, you should get them within a day or two. Notes on the exam and the grade factor: It was very evident from the exam that there was not enough time, and that the level may have been too hard for the short time available. To counter these difficulties, I implemented the following factor: let X be the sum of points you got, then the factored grade is X+25 (capped at 100). The final grade was computed as written in the Syllabus. I hope the grades alleviate some of the frustration I know most of you felt after the exam. Like I said, this was a "calibration test" -- a necessary evil in a new course. Future generations will thank you. For the appeal policy: once you get the exam scan, read it carefully as well as the solution. If you want to appeal, email me within a week with your appeal. |

Exam structure, instructions, suggestions, and other useless information | |

Hi all, Some info on the exam, which in my opinion is pretty useless, but if you find it comforting - great. Material: everything we covered. In the notes: up to and including Section 13, excluding Theorem 13.2. What you need to memorize: - The different acceptance conditions for automata, including their acronyms (DPW, NRW, NBW, etc.) - The syntax and semantics of LTL, S1S, and games. There is not much else to memorize. I will assume you know and understand the various constructions we've seen, but this is more about understanding than memorizing. Exam structure: - The exam will be *2 hours* long. - It will consist of 4 questions. Some answers require proofs, but some will be very short (so there is not too much writing to do). - The questions will resemble the homework in the sense that they will be questions about the material... How to prepare: - I don't know. - Go over the material and the homework and think whether you understand it. - If you have time, try to play around with definitions and ideas and ask yourself what would happen if this or that changes. As usual, if you want to meet and ask questions, either come to my reception hour or email me to schedule another time. Or Piazza. Good luck! |
