Welcome to the course! | |
Dear Students, The course is intended for excellent students who are interested in practical research-oriented projects related to computer systems aspects, such as operating systems, computer architecture, virtualization, storage, networking, security, and clouds. The course prerequisites are: "Operating Systems" (234123 or 046209) and "Computer Architecture" (236267 or 046267). It is also highly recommended to have the course "Operating Systems Engineering" (236376). Each project will be supervised/guided by a graduate student of the Computer Systems Laboratory. The supervisor will choose a project topic that supports its ongoing research activity; The list of all available project topics will thus not be made publicly available. A good project will implement a system or idea to solve an actual research problem. Projects will be evaluated based on their deliverables: the source code, experiments, and analysis. Collaboration is encouraged but not mandatory: each project can be done in pairs or individually. The first goal of the course is offering students a glimpse into actual computer systems research. Undergraduate students can take this course to fulfill their project study requirement, and graduate students (and seasoned undergraduates) can take it to find a research topic. The second goal of the course is identifying students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies. Preference will thus be given to candidates who wish to extend the project to an MSc/PhD thesis. Regards, -- Course Staff |
