שלום לכם סטודנטים חביבים, כל מי שדווח לו ציון סופי באימייל, אמור כעת או ממחר לראות אותו גם פורמלית. לאחרים - התחיל הסמסטר ונוסף לכל הצרות (חיזבאללה האירנים וכו), גם שברתי עצם בפיקה של הברך לפני שמונה ימים, ואני עם גבס על כל הרגל ועקב כך הכל זז יותר לאט כעת לאלו שביקשו ציון לא השלים - עדיין לא הצלחתי להבין כיצד להזין זאת (מספרית) במערכת, זה יקרה אוטומטית מתישהו (אם לא אעביר כל ציון), אבל אם יש דחיפות, אנא תגידו לי שיש דחיפות בהצלחה ושתהיה אחלה שנה טל |

Dear students, There are 11 teams, 6 teams of pairs, and five individuals. a. Only 2.5 teams submitted a first or a second version of the final work. b. Five slide-shows are on the web-page, two more (Ayelet, and Ofir+Noam) presented but the presentation is not yet on the web-page. c. I asked (and re-ask now) all others -- and especially those not included in item "b" -- to work in parallel on a presentation and on the final work. d. I clarify again that you must have a new version number/date both on the FILE NAME and inside the file (first page of a presentation and final work), whenever you send a file to me. Or else it becomes nearly impossible for me to know what to check. e. Try to minimize number of iterations, by submitting good versions, unless I explicitly ask for something at an intermediate stage. f. If you have a deadline for getting a final grade - please HURRY UP. And also please tell me the deadline. I will be abroad for some time, and there are holidays, and I'm not always available to work on this course, so take into account that we are all busy people and do not respond immediately. g. I do not want to (and cannot) deal with more than 2-3 teams that have no grade by end of October. I presume the course will be given again in the next Spring so it can solve a problem to the slowest team(s), who can re-register if want to. h. Options of LO HISHLIM and MILUIM-PASS-GRADE also exist, but I hope no team will need/want such a option, unless there is no choice. i. Last but not least - be clear about references: the main one used (so I can look into it in case needed), quotes from references, uses of chat-GPT and such, etc. Best regards, Tal |

Three very important comments | |

a. I put in the "material" Tomer's first version of his final work, because I think it is an optimal and excellent example, that can be useful as a guide for the others. Even just by reading Tomer's first version, and after also seeing and hearing his lecture, it is clear to me that his grade will be in the range 97-100. NOTE: It takes me a long time to go through many many iteration so please try to submit to me only versions that you find to have no errors, correct way(s) to cite, new version number, reasonable font, page/slides numbers, etc etc. b. All students who did not present in front of the class their full lecture - please work in parallel on the presentation and on the final work, because if not, I'm worried we will get deeply into the Winter semester, and then it may take many months, since we will all be busy with other things. c. Gradually, I'm starting to give feedback and more instructions to all of you. Please update me in case you have a lot of time to invest in the near future, so I can give a priority accordingly. Luckily I did not need to reduce grades to anyone last Sunday+Monday. Unfortunately one couple decided that it is too difficult and/or too time consuming and decided to quit the course, which is also legitimate in my eyes, even if highly unfortunate. Please do not force me to provide again such a threat and a deadline. I feel very bad when I need to send such a threat. So please send me urgently updated versions, with more slides, with corrections if I asked these in my feedback. Please make sure it is clearly a new version on the first slide (a date or a new version number). And please never use the same file-name as an earlier version, to avoid confusion. Another reminder - please send me a white background version. If you use help from chatGPT (and alike) or you copy whole sentences/paragraphs from any source, please clarify this (copied sentences for example should be written with quotes, mostly of course use your own words, unless it is highly useful to use the quotes). Pease clarify what exactly is yours, especially if you use chat-GPT or alike for something. Speakers on Monday: Netanel, and Nada+Dina. Speakers on Wednesday: I believe Jonah+Idan, and Christine+Eran, can easily be ready for a full talk. I'm less sure about Michal+Adi and about Noga - please update me. I am not sure if Noam+ofir and Shimon+Avi and Maayan can present a full presentation in front of the class, but maybe Noam+Ofir and Maayan will be ale to present 5-10 minutes of part of their work. I still leave open the possibility of "using" the last Wednesday for a second complementary class - but I think it is not allowed by the formal rules of the Technion, so I might do it non-mandatory, just for those who can. Hi, I already sent partial or full feedback to most of you. I think only Netanel and Nada and Dina still need an urgent feedback from me. Apart from personal feedbacks, the general ones are: a. No full-color when sending to me (you can have a full-color version in addition, so you can present to class as you like). b. Always have a version number of the file (or date in the name of the file). c. On the first page, name and number of the course. your names, title, date or version number. You may also mention me if you wish (but this is not mandatory - no one else is teaching 236664). On the second page or the first - the main paper (or papers) used, including enough details so that I can identify the paper. Slides numbers are useful - when I give feedback, and to know where we are when we listen to you. d. Refs. needs to be cited when used, and appear at the end (with the numbers). Commonly order at the end should be similar to order of appearance in the slides. e. If you are getting help from chat-GPT or slides of others or whatever, of course DO NOT COPY. Use your own words and make sure you understand everything you wish to explain to others. [I will not check if a code is made by chat GPT - we are not in a software course. But if you do use chat GPT or some other source for something, e.g. for a code or for some of your slides, the best and the honest way is to cite it! And to make it clear what is your contribution beyond what you got from others] f. Make sure the slides look GOOD (not outside the page) when using MS-powerpoint or a PDF. These are the two formats that I can use. g. Recall that in powerpoint, when printed, we cannot see animation and comments. So please try not to have too many of those. Actually maybe there is a way in printing to see all steps of an animation, one several pages, I'm not sure. I hope I provided all the needed info here :-) Tal |

I was expecting today to already receive those slides. If not received by Sunday, I'm sorry but I'll reduce 5 points from your final grade. And if not received by Monday - 10 points. Also - students that missed class with no reason confirmed by me (e.g., Ofir and Noam) - you will also start to lose points. Let me start with the most important news: A. Tomer's slides for tomorrow's lecture are now uploaded to the MATERIALS. I hope to also upload Ayelet's slides, tonight or tomorrow morning. Commonly the student and I go through several iterations, before the slides are ready, so I need to see the slides about two weeks in advance. B. I still did not get any complete set of slides from any other student, for the week after. It is highly problematic. To be on the safe side, in order not to cancel the lecture on August 5'th, I have to request, actually I have to demand, that for Monday August 5'th, each person will prepare at least 5 slides and each pair of students will prepare at least 8 slides. C. A personal call for Michal - I cannot find your choice of topic, please email me or tell me tomorrow. D. A personal call for Adi - I recall you and I agreed on the topic but I cannot find what it is, please email me or tell me tomorrow. E. Noga and Maayan - you may ignore item B above, and have one additional week. Shimon and Adi - if it is a problem due to MILUIM, you may also ignore item B above. Dear students, To some questions that you ask me it is easy for me to answer. But to other questions, especially about specific papers - it requires much more of my time, and sometimes I can only answer after a few days or a week. The most important point is that PLEASE DO NOT WAIT AND WAIT. You can always search for more papers on the topic - either papers by the same authors, or papers cited by the paper you are trying to read, or papers citing it. It is important to look at many papers! Mostly just read the title (even of 50 papers), for 5-10 also read the abstract, and for a very few read deeper. This way you will know better what to ask me and it will help you and me to focus more efficiently. Lehit' Tal |

שלום למתעניינים בתחילת החיים ותחילתו של הקוד הגנטי. ראו קבצים מצורפים בנוגע לקורס עצמו ולהנחיות לסטודנטים. האם יש כאן דוברי אנגלית שלחלוטין לא יודעים עברית? בשיעור הראשון, ב-27 למאי, יינתן שיעור מבוא שבו יובהרו כל תת הנושאים שיילמדו בקורס. הערה חשובה מאד: ביום שני, ה-3 ליוני מתקיים בטכניון כנס בנושאי הקורס. אני אחד המארגנים של הכנס. זוכת נובל עדה יונת תרצה בשעה 14:00. לכן לא יהיה שיעור בתאריך ה-3 ליוני. בכלל אני ממליץ לבוא לכנס כולו. גדולי התחום בארץ, וגם מומחה עולמי מארה"ב יתנו הרתאות בשלל נושאים. רצוי להירשם. חפשו בגוגל ILASOL 2024 |
