שלום לכולם, בחינות מועד ב' נבדקו והציונים זמינים לכם (דרך אתר הקורס) כמו גם הסריקות (דרך UG). עקב סרגל בדיקה מתחשב שקבענו, התפלגות הציונים שהתקבלה הייתה סבירה והוגנת. עם זאת ולפנים משורת הדין, בנוסף לסעיף 5ב' שהפך לסעיף בונוס (של 5 נק'), החלטנו לתת פקטור נוסף לציון הבחינה של +2 נקודות. הציון הסופי חושב כפי שהוגדר מראש: 60% בחינה עם פקטור +2 40% ממוצע (שווה-משקל) של 3 תרגילי הבית + בונוס על תחרות הבלוקוס (למי שרלוונטי) ניתן להגיש ערעורים כמקובל עד שבוע (וקצת) ממועד פרסום הסריקות: יום א' 23.3.14, שעה 23:55. נא להקפיד להגיש עותק קשיח לתא של עומר וניתן לשלוח אימייל בנוסף, לזירוז התהליך. שימו לב כי אין צורך להדפיס את מחברת הבחינה הסרוקה שלכם (חבל על הנייר, הכל זמין לנו אלקטרונית). פתרון מומלץ יתפרסם בקרוב באתר .מומלץ לקרוא בעיון ולהבין לעומק טרם הגשת ערעור. סמסטר אביב מוצלח לכולם! סגל הקורס |

שלום לכולם, ערעורי מועד א' נבדקו והוחזרו למזכירות. ניתן לקבלם מחוה או דורית בשעות הקבלה שלהן 9-12, כל יום. הציונים באתר הקורס עודכנו בהתאם (ציון בחינה + סופי). עדכון באתר הסמכה, כנראה בעוד כיומיים. בהצלחה רבה, במועד ב' לניגשים. להזכירכם, הוא יתקיים ביום ב' של שבוע הבא 3.3.2014, בטאוב 9 כמפורסם באתר הסמכה. ניתן לשלוח שאלות בהם היתקשתם בלמידה לעומר. כמו במועד א' נבקשכם לצרף למייל את נסיונותיכם לפתרון ו\או הקשיים בהם נתקלתם בדרך. במידה ויהיו מספר רב של פניות, עומר יקיים שעת קבלה מורחבת למענה על שאלותיכם שתקבע בהמשך השבוע. בהצלחה! סגל הקורס. |

שלום לכולם, פורסמו ציונים של מועד א', ציון משוקלל של שיעורי הבית, בונוס על הצלחה בתחרות בלוקוס והציונים הסופיים. כמו כן הועלה לאתר פתרון מומלץ לבחינה, לעיונכם. מומלץ לקרוא בעיון ולהבין לקראת מועד ב' וטרם הגשת ערעור. בסך הכול הציונים היו טובים ולא נדרש לתקן בשום פקטור. הממוצע 82.5 והחציון 84. ניתן להגיש ערעורים כרגיל עד לעוד שבוע בדיוק, ערב יום א' 16.2.2014. ערעורים באמצעות טופס רשמי מהמזכירות בלבד לתא של עומר שבקומה 5. ניתן לשלוח לעומר מייל ליידוע על מנת לזרז את הטיפול במידת האפשר. בהצלחה בהמשך תקופת הבחינות. סגל הקורס |

Wednesday: Summarizing the Blokus tournament at 13:30 and project presentations at the tutorial 16:30

Hi all, On Wednesday 13:30-14:20, (probably Taub 9) we will be having an Extra session for summarizing the Blokus tournament. Obviouslly your participation is encouraged but not mandatory and no new formal material of the course will be taught. The plan is to: 1 hear from several groups who's agents performed exceptionaly well in the tournament about their algorithms and heuristics. 2 Have the audience vote, which of the presented agents, they think is the best. 3 See a few example games of the presented agents and discuss them shortly. 4 Present the summarizing statistics of the tournament. Lets see how well the audience predicted the results... Hope to see you there... The formal Tutorial at 16:30-17:20 will be dedicated to projects in AI. You will hear from two groups about their project from the previous semester. Also, I will talk shortly about other projects and the course in general for those of you who are considering taking it in the coming semester. Here as well, your participation is encouraged but not mandatory and no new formal material of the course will be taught. Please note that this tutorial(14) will be held only once on Wednesday. So, it turns out there was a mention of a bonus for those who gave an improved state. I was unaware of this when checking. I will re-check and give bonus points where they are due. In any case, no points were deducted for those who did not give such an example. UPDATE: checked as well. |

small code fix

HW2 version 4 has been uploaded. There has been only one minor fix, if you haven't encountered the problem, no change is required on your part. One line of code has been added to BlokusGameInput.makeShapes() enabling but not requiring shapes of size 6. This fix is only relevant to students who decided to create an alternative shapes.txt file and wanted to add a shape of size 6 (more info in the FAQ). |

Hi all, Due to the fire yesterday and the recitation we stoped in the middle, a makeup recitation will be scheduled during next week. I will use this oppurtunity to split the recitation more reasonably: The 50-minute you choose will be dedicated to the formal material of the course. Participation in this extra session is not mandatory but you are all welcome to come if you are interested. Please note a small but important change in HW2 code (new version: 3). The time allocation for the example player has been revised. BlokusGameAgentExample, line 41: self.turnTimeLimit = (timeLimit - 5.0) / (state.numOfShapes * len(state.currentPlayer.colors)) instead of self.turnTimeLimit = (timeLimit - 5) / state.numOfShapes This may change the player's behaviour, so... If you can re-run your experiments - that will be great. But, due to this relatively late change, re-runing is not mandatory. Also, please note the updated FAQ |

Makeup tutorial + HW2 reception hours + HW2 postponement

Hi all, A make up recitation for Tuesday's group will take place on Sunday 29.12.13 16:30-17:20, the usual class Taub 5. I (Omer) will teach Tutorial 8 on Probabalistic games. If you are unfarmiliar with the rules of Backgammon (Shesh Besh), please take the time to learn them before class. To this end you may read slides 6-10 or use any information you find on the web. Regarding HW2: As I have been getting a substanial ammount of questions by email lately, I will be holding an additional reception hour. For your convinience I will split it into 2 parts of 30 minutes before and after the makeup tutorial on Sunday: Sunday 29.12 15:50-16:20 Taub 631 (my office) Sunday 29.12 17:20-17:50 Taub 5 I will try to answer all of your questions sent by email soon and upload an FAQ, please be patient. To reduce the pressure from you a bit, and due to several requests for postponements the new due date is set to Sunday night 5.1.2013. שלום לכולם, תודה למי שהעיר לגבי תקלות והתנהגויות לא צפויות בקוד המסופק של תרגיל בית 2. הועלתה גרסה מתוקנת לקוד וכמובן, תודה לבוריס סירוטה על התיקון המהיר והמקצועי. סיכום של השינויים ניתן למצוא ב AI_HW2_CodeV2.pdf . גבו את עבודתכם וקחו את הזמן לשלב את העדכון בקוד שלכם. כמו כן, אם כבר הרצתם תחרויות, יש להריצם מחדש בעקבות העדכון. אבל... שימו לב לעדכון במסמך: על מנת לחסוך בזמן הריצה אתה רשאים לוותר על משחקי השחקנים בעומק 6 ללא פגיעה בציון. ראשית נסו לוותר רק על המשחקים של צמד השחקנים בעומק 6. אם זה לא מספיק, אתם רשאים לוותר על כל המשחקים של שחקנים אלו. עומר |

Hi, Many of you still struggle to find and implement a fast enough algorithm for finding a cool path. To sweeten the rest of your holiday, we have decided to make the cool path finding algorithm implementation a bonus question. You are still required to describe the algorithm in the dry part. HW1 version 5 - critical changes and change of due date

Hi, I have published a critical update to the homework. Main changes: The cool path as required in the last version was very hard to find. In the new version we gave you smaller problems to run your algorithm on. Also, you are given hints as to how to find a relatively efficient algorithm. Don't worry! Algorithms that do not use the hints will still be accepted, so if you had an algorithm that worked, you don't have to change it. Thanks for all the students who commented on the subject. Please download the new zip and take the time to integrate the changes you might have made into the new files. Backup your work before unzipping! HW1 - helpul files

A new file was uploaded and may prove useful: wrapper.zip. It contains a template for loading the map one time across sessions. This means load once, and in next sessions the map is allready in the memory! This may save a lot of time as you probably noticed. Courtasy of Mikhael Bikman, our student from last year. |

שלום לכולם קודם כל, הוספתי שקף שלדעתי מבהיר את דרך פעולתה של IDA* שקף מספר 57 ב optimizing search שנית, תשובות לשאלות שקבלתי : ״אתה מגביל גם את עומק החיפוש? כי יכול להיות שיהיה לך תת עץ עם מחיר טוב שהוא אינסופי אבל לא מגיע לצומת המטרה״ תשובה: התנאי של חסימת המחיר מלטה מבטיח שבעומק מסויים ה f יתחיל לגדול. שאלה: אפשר בבקשה להסביר למה לא כדאי לשמור חזית חיפוש ב IDASTAR? תשובה: אז האלגוריתם היה הופך להיות ASTAR. כל הרעיון כאן הוא לחפש פתרון אופטימלי בדרישת זכרון לינארית. |

IDA* is optimal

After looking into the literature and confirming with shaul, this time its final: IDA* is optimal if h is addmisible and the cost is positively bounded from below (as originally written in the pptx). Tut5 was fixed back to the original Tut5_remarks was fixed accordingly sorry for the ping pong... |

Hi all! HW1 has been published, TA in charge of it is Yaron. Please send all questions regarding the assignment to him. Also you are encouraged to attend his reception hours Tuesdays at 10:30 regarding the assignment. You are of course very welcome to attend Shaul and Omer's reception hours as well regarding anything left unclear from class. The official due date is in 2.5 weeks 28.11.13, right before Hanuka. We will offer an extenssion until right after the holiday, but take into account that HW2 will be published before Hanuka as well so there will be an overlap if you choose to take the extenssion. Students of Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (236501), Shalom! We would like to welcome you to our course and wish you all good luck in the new school year. Our first lecture will take place on the upcoming Wednesday, 16/10/13 14:30-16:30. The matching recitations will take place on the same day 16/10 16:30-17:30 and the following Tuesday 22/10 at 9:30-10:30 as published in the UG website and in the course website: http://webcourse.cs.technion.ac.il/236501/Winter2013-2014. Note that the first recitation planned for Tuesday 15/10 is canceled. A few words about the course: This is an "Advanced course" but an Introductory to the field of Artificial intelligence. As such, we assume you have acquired some basic programing skills in previous courses. The main programming language we will be using is Python (version 2.7.3), which will be introduced in class shortly but mainly your responsibility to learn independently. Programing will generally be viewed as a tool and basic skill, not a formal topic. In the course we will introduce several algorithms in the field of AI (more details can be found in the course syllabus). The course is mainly of empirical and heuristic nature, even though some formalisms and proofs will also be introduced. Generally speaking, this is not a strict and formal course mathematically. We will most probably be requiring the submission of 3 TAKEF assignments which include a wet part to be implemented in Python and a dry report, in addition to a final exam. Keep in mind that the assignments will require a significant amount of time and compose 40% of the final grade. One of the exercises will be the traditional game contest of the course which you might have heard about. In this contest, you will implement a player for a game which we will define and provide some code framework for. The AI players submitted will compete against each other and the winners will be awarded a significant bonus to their final grade! We expect and hope it will be fun for you and for us... We will be conducting the recitations according to topics: each topic will be taught by one of the TAs in both groups. The first recitation will include a general introduction to the course and to the Python programming language. This recitation will be taught on Wednesday by Omer and on the following Tuesday by Yaron. Omer will be the TA in charge so that all logistic and bureaucratic issues including Miluim service and such should be referred to him.
