Clarification about the Id function and small tutorial correction | |

We wish to clarify that in previous years we have taught that id function in XPath can get several string nodes and concatenate them. There were implementations that did that, but the current document states that in such a case the first node only will be considered. We stick with the current document (id function can only get a single string). Please note that this causes mistakes in solutions of some previous exams. For instance in Winter 2013-2014 - moed A in 4b (as the parameter in the Id function there contains several string nodes). Obviously, you can apply the Id function on a single Idrefs field (which is actually a single string). In this case all the nodes for the ids in the idrefs field will be returned. In addition, on slide #42 in the XPath tutorial there is a mistake - it should be a "later year" and not a "previous year". Regards, Course staff |

In the GR you will have two columns. HW2 - for the HW2 grade. HW2_comments : If this field is 0 - please ignore it. If this field is 50 - please contact Ella or Roni Otherwise please look for the number you have in this field in the file "comments" in the assignments section (in this file you can see the errors you had and the penalty for them). The assignment was checked manually as well as in automatic tests. The tests are also available under the assignments section. You can submit appeals about your grade by email to uroniliatcs.technion.ac.il WITH THE SUBJECT "HW2 - APPEAL" until 29/5 12:30. You should clarify about what you appeal and your ID. Last night CSL2 server issues | |

The course staff got some emails regarding server issues started after 23:30 last night and that were resolved early this morning. As we mentioned when we published the HW (one month ago), delays and postponements due to server connectivity issues will not be approved. For students that only have to check some last minute things, we will approve no penalty submission till 18:00 today. Submissions from 18:00 today and till 12:30 tomorrow will get 5 points penalty. After that the penalty is as published on the course site (each day on 12:30). The course staff. |

There was some mistakes in the box table that showed a state that can not happen. We have updated all of your box tables. If you have altered your box table you can find your old table under the name: box_course_backup. With the mistake or without your code shouldn't be different. Our Example.in and Example.out are the same. H.W. late submissions | |
|
Due to some misunderstandings we wish to clarify: The penalty of unauthorized late submissions is 5 points per effective day or part thereof. An effective day is a period of 24 hours from 12:30pm to 12:30pm the next day, with the exception that the period from Friday at 12:30 to the following Sunday at 12:30 is counted as one effective day. As an example, a submission on Sunday 12:20pm of an exercise whose due date was on Thursday 12:30pm would be two days late. The maximum allowed late submission is up to 6 effective days, which is exactly one calendar week. After this period the submission will not be accepted. For instance for HW1, after 10/4 at 12:30 the work will not be accepted. All late submissions should be submitted directly to the mailbox of the TA in charge of the exercise on the 5th floor. If you submitted late, send the TA an email to inform that the exercise is waiting in the mailbox (so we will know to go get it). If you don't send an email, we will assume that you submitted it exactly 10 minutes before we found it. In special cases, and only in special cases, permission to submit late (without a penalty) will be given. Please ask for the permission before the original exercise deadline. The criteria for retroactive requests made after the deadline will be stricter. Due to misunderstandings in HW1, people who have submitted after Thursday 12:30 and before Sunday 12:30 will have only 5 points reduced. IMPORTANT: These regulations might change on the last exercise. |

When we find frequently asked questions or we need to explain or clarify something we do that in the FAQ section so make sure you read it frequently. The SQL server we use has a limitation on the number of connections it can handle at the same time so don't wait until the last moment to check your solution. Delays and postponements due to server connectivity issues will not be approved. Extension in HW1 due to moed b tests | |

Due to several requests we'll allow the following extension to those of you who had moed b tests while the exercise was out. For partners X and Y let n be the total amount of moed b tests X and Y did while the exercise was out. (n = number of moed b X did from 17/3 to 28/3 + the number of moed b tests Y did from 17/3 to 28/3) if n>=5 you can submit by 6/4 12:30pm. IMPORTANT: so that we would be able to validate that indeed you had taken this amount of moed b tests, please send us\attach to the HW something that proves it, for instance a screen shot from the GR confirming that you have a grade. In addition, all extensions should be submitted to the mail box on the 5th floor of the TA in charge of the exercise. |

In the last tutorial we solved Question 2c from Winter A 2012-2013. The question is related to ERD schema from question 1. Be advised that in the exam the course staff added for that question that every person can have more then one job in the same address (the job attribute is also a key).
