Moed B grades and scans are available now. According to Prof. Kaminski's request... Regarding appeals: - Appeals may be submitted until Thursday, 19.11.13. No appeals will be accepted after this date. - To submit an appeal, read the instructions & fill the Appeal Form (on the course website, under the Material\Additional Material tab). Read all the instructions carefully and follow all of them. In particular, when you send an appeal it should not include the first page of the appeal form. Appeals, together with exam scans, should be emailed to Omer. - You should appeal only in cases when you think a correct answer was marked as a mistake. Do not appeal the AMOUNT of points deducted for a mistake. - All appeals will be checked and returned up to one week after submission, i.e. 26.11.13. |

Hi all, HW4 has been graded and sent to you with feedback via email. I still got some assignments with no name or email writen on them. If you did not get your assignment back or have no grade visible at the webcourse site please email me. Generally the grades were quite good, but note that the check was more leniant then to be expected in the exam. Make sure you read and understand the remarks. Also, I have writen a document summarizing common mistakes and other suggestions available under course material. You are encouraged to read it even if you got a good grade. In Suday's Sadna, I plan to solve Q3 and other questions upon your request. If you have any, please send them to me in advance. Hi all, - HW5 is now available on site. Note that the submission date is 15.8.13, giving you more than 2 weeks. This extenssion is due to the holidays and due to the fact that Q2 and Q5 require material thay has not been taught yet. - Remember that next week we have 2 matkonet days: Sunday is matkonet Thursday and Monday is matkonet Wednesday. - Even so, the Sadna on this coming Sunday will take place as usual, regardless of the matkonet day. - For your information and as Prof. Kaminski stated in class, the order of Lectures 13 and 14 will be reversed. - As I promised in my recitation yesterday, I will soon upload a proof of the question variation I started in class regarding Slide3 in Recitation9. Hi all, HW1 has been checked and graded, grades should be visible to you already. I am awaiting an email list of the students (from the adminstration) so that I may return the assignments with remarks. If you want your assignment now, send me an email with your IDs and I'll send it to you directly. - Since we did not announce the bonus for typed assignments in advance we decided to give everyone the bonus only for HW1. - Future assignments will get the bonus IFF the assignment is typed and submitted as a pdf or word via electronic submission. - The HW1 bonus is calculated as Min(Round( 1.1 * grade) , 100). - I am glad to see everyone complied with my request for electronic submission. In future assignments, you may, if you wish forfiet the bonus, submit handwritten assignments in the course cell on floor 1. - If you submit pictures of handwritten assignments, make sure your handwriting is readable and the photo quality is reasonable. A few remarks regarding the submissions: - Most of you did a good job. The statistics (without bonus): Submitted-26/35 , Range: 75-100 , Average: 92.3, Median: 94. - One assignment got 100 without the bonus! - Others usually had some points reduced for Q2,Q5,Q6. - Note that some of you got remarks for style or unnessecarily long proofs, but no points were reduced for these. - We opened an FAQ, you are encouraged to check it out every once in a while. Hi all. Please note that we have published HW2 due Sunday 18.8. A typed submission of this assignment (and for each of the next assignments too) will gain a 10% bonus. Notice electronic submission is allowed. If electronic submission is chosen the assignment should be submitted in both PDF format, and some editable format (as doc,tex,lyx) for comments embedding. שלום לכולם, כמה הודעות: 1. תרגיל בית מספר 2 יפורסם בהמשך היום, על מנת לתת לכם זמן נוסף לעבוד עליו. באופן כללי בסמסטר קיץ מוקצה שבוע לכל תרגיל בית בגלל הקצב הכפול הנהוג בסמסטרים אלה. על מנת להקל עליכם, נשתדל (לא מובטח שתמיד, אבל נעשה מאמץ) לפרסם את תרגילי הבית בימי רביעי כדי לתת לכם כשבוע וחצי עד ההגשה ביום ראשון. המטרה כאמור, לתת לכם יותר זמן ולאפשר התייחסות לשיעורי הבית בסדנה של יום ראשון, שבוע לפני ההגשה. אבל... זה יגרום לחפיפה בין תרגילי הבית, לידיעתכם. 2. עקב השינוי בלו"ז של שפות תכנות . ניתן להעביר את התרגול שלנו לימי רביעי, שעה אחורה כמו שהוצע בשיעור, כלומר ימי ד' 12:30-14:30. השינוי ייכנס לתוקף החל משבוע הבא 14.8. כידוע, אין אפשרות לבצע שינויים ללא אישורם של כל הסטודנטים. לפיכך, במידה ויש מתנגד אחד או יותר, נא לשלוח מייל בעניין לעומר בהקדם האפשרי. נבקשכם להודיע על התנגדות רק במידה ואין באפשרותכם להגיע לשיעור מתוך התחשבות ביתר הסטודנטים. 3. לפי מספר הנרשמים הנוכחי, אין כמות מספיקה לפתיחת קבוצת תרגול נוספת. 4. שאלות עבור הסדנה ביום ראשון, ניתן לשלוח מראש באימייל לעומר שילמד את הסדנה. 5. אנו חוזרים ומדגישים את החשיבות של נוכחות בשיעורים, פתרון תרגילי הבית ולמידה אקטיבית במהלך הסמסטר על מנת להצליח בקורס זה. בהצלחה, סגל הקורס |

שלום לכולם, לידיעתכם, לפי המדיניות שנקבעה על ידי המרצה וסגל הקורס: לא יתאפשרו העברות קרדיט על שיעורי בית מסמסטרים קודמים לחוזרים על הקורס באופן גורף. הטיעון המרכזי לכך, כפי שהסברתי בתרגול הראשון: קשה להצליח בקורס ללא הכנת שיעורי בית. חוץ מזה, כיוון שאין חובת הגשה ושיעורי הבית הם מגן בלבד, מי שמרגיש בטוח עם החומר רשאי לוותר על המגן. לדעתי זה לא מומלץ ואני מציע לפתור את שיעורי הבית במלואם. בהצלחה רבה, עומר |

HW1 and Recitations | |

Hi all, Please note that we have published HW1 due Sunday 11.8. A few things regarding classes: 1. We will try to move the recitation one hour earlier, to 12:30-14:30 due to requests from students because of the overlapping with OOP lecture. If this causes anyone trouble (he/she, absolutely will not be able to attend at this time), please send me an email ASAP. Otherwise, we will publish a followup message in a few days. 2. On Sunday 4.8, 12:30-14:30 we will have our first Sadna, taught by Michael (the TA). The time was chosen as it seemed like the most fitting time for the STUDENTS. I got one complaint regarding the time we set. From my impression in class today, it seems that the time set is ok for most students. If you have a specific problem with it, please send me a mail, and in the unlikely case this is a problem for more than a few students, we will consider rescheduling. 3. The attendance in both lectures and recitations is currently at less than 50% which is very bad. I hope this is only because of the exams at this time... The classes are for you, I suggest you use them. 4. For those who did not attend the recitation today: most of the material is on our site, but we did cover some other variations I improvised on the fly, you are encouraged to read notes of attending students. 5. In class we covered a proof of L(A) but it was quite fast. This does not mean these proofs are not important, on the contrary! They are quite tedious but important specifically because of that. Writing a full formal proof is esential for success in this course! Best regards, Omer |

Hi all, Good luck in the summer semester starting today. As published we will be replacing the reception hours of the TAs with a weekly 2-hour workshop (SADNA) wich will be held on Sundays 12:30-14:30 in TAUB 3. You are encouraged to come to these with your questions, as well as sending them to the TAs in email in advance. Please take into consideration that our course is considered to be a difficult one for many students. As such, it is highly recomended to use any help you can get through attending the lectures, reciitations, workshops, and solving the homework assignments. Since this is a summer semester, the speed is doubled. Try to keep in touch with the material! Students of Automata and formal languages (236353), Shalom! On behalf of the course staff: Prof. Michael Kaminski, Michael Riabzev, Omer Geiger, we would like to welcome to the course and wish you all good luck in the summer semester. The first lecture will take place on the upcoming Sunday at Taub 2, on the first day of the summer semester, 28/7/13 at 9:30-11:30. Please note that the rest of the lectures will be taught at Taub 5. The first recitation will take place on 31/7 as published in the UG website and in the course website: http://webcourse.cs.technion.ac.il/236353. A few words about the course: This is a theoretic course of Computer Science. We will learn definitions of formal languages, formal grammers, and mathematical computational models such as finite state automata and others. During the semester, we will publish 6 dry HW assignments, to be submitted in pairs. Each assignment submitted, entitles you to 3% MAGEN to the final grade. This semester, there will be no quizzes during the semester. You are encouraged to submit the HW assignments in order to keep in touch with the material. The reception hours of the TAs will be replaced by a weekly 2-hour workshop (SADNA) which will take place on Sundays 12:30-14:30 except for the first week. The workshop room will be published soon.
