The procedure that was used for checking the wet part is published in the assignments section. Your programme was human-checked, so slight variations in the output did not cause anyone to lose many points. The dry parts will be available in the secretariat on Sunday. If you got a very low grade (or none at all), it is possible that we did not get a part of your work (either the wet or the dry part -- each got 50% of the grade). It is also possible that your code did not assemble at all. In those cases, contact Yaron and we will sort it out. If you were on reserve duty please remember to submit the appropriate documents, if you did not do so already. |

Grades for HW3 were published. If you got a really low grade, do not panic - I might have not received one of the parts. Please look if your ID appears in the file "missing.txt" in assignments section. If I didn't get your wet part, just send it to me by mail. If I didn't get your dry part and you're sure you have submitted it, please contact me with your details and I will check the case. If you failed all of the tests, it is probably a small problem (wrong labels or so), so fix it and send me by mail describing what the problem was (there will probably be a penalty). The wet part was tested with 7 new tests (can be found under assignments section) - 4 points for passing each. Also the 15 tests from HW2 were used again - 1 point for passing each. There was a 7 points penalty for programs that did not compile (and I had to search for labels to delete). Dry parts will be in the secretariat on Sunday or Monday. Appeals should be handed within two weeks. If you want to appeal on the dry part, put you exercise with appeal description in my mailbox. If you want to appeal on the wet part checking, please send details by mail. |

Several HW4 announcements | |

First, due to technical problems with the computer farm network, electronic submission is now open until 23:00 today (Thursday). Second, the rules for late submission have been amended: - Each day will now incur a penalty of 2 points (instead of 5) - Tamer will hold special reception hours (to be announced later) in which you'll be able to ask for retroactive postponement. It means that if you wish to ask for postponement for any reason (except reserve duty) you should concentrate now on finishing the assignment, and talk with Tamer later. The only exception is people who went on reserve duty, who should still talk with Yaron about postponements. - The grading of the assignment will not be harsh. We'd rather have you finishing the assignment a little later than submitting non-working code now, and small mistakes will not harm your grade considerably. - Even though we use an automatic checker, it does mean that if there's a small difference in the output then the whole test will fail. Your code will also be checked by hand to make sure that insignificant variations in output are graded as such. |

A notice about HW4 | |
| It seems that there is a bug in the implementation of the wait instruction in the simulator. Therefore, do not use it in your code. You can use a regular loop along with a flag variable (similar to the printbuf routine from tutorial 13) instead. |

| Due to popular demand, you can now use addresses up to 7500 for your code and data. Memory addresses starting at 7500 are reserved for automatic checking. I updated the hw4.doc and ex4_test1.txt files accordingly. |

One of you found a small mistake in the hw4.doc file -- the numbers for the second row of some of the example boards were 4, 1 instead of 5, 1. I uploaded a fixed version to the website. If you didn't notice that mistake, you probably have nothing to worry about. |

If you have any question regarding the fourth assignment, please check whether the answer was posted in the FAQ section before mailing Yaron. Also, the ex4_test.bat and ex4_test1.txt files were added to the homework section. Make sure your code compiles and works correctly with this test. |

The final deadline for submitting HW3 is 21/6, Sunday, at 12:00 (noon). This is the deadline for everyone, including those who were sick. Those who were in miluim can submit late (no need to notify me), according to the number of days they were away since the exercise was released. Please DO NOT send me additional postponement requests. Please note, that all normal submission (aka before the final deadline) are to be handed to the course box. Later submissions (miluim) should be handed to my mailbox in Taub floor 5, with the "ishur" attached. |

The exercises will be available tomorrow at the E floor secretariat in Taub. Answers for the dry question and the tests we've ran on your code can be found in the assignments section. Appeals should be submitted to Michael, not later than Tuesday, June 30th. ---------------------------------- A note on grading: Several technical mistakes ("technical" in the sense that they are not logical problems, but rather cause the submission to fail to adhere to the rules of the exercise) were common. The three most common were: Submission without a "main" label, or with a wrong-case "main" label. Submission with an "Output" label in the code. An output of 1 for a correct board and 0 for an incorrect one. Each of those mistakes caused a 5 point grade reduction. Appeals related to those reductions have a very low probability of being accepted. Good luck in the next exercise, Course staff |

Ex3 postponed + yet another important note | |

Exercise 3 is postponed. The new deadline is Wednesday, 17/6, 12:00 (noon). Late submissions for "miluim" students, please put them in my mailbox (Oren) in Taub floor 5, with a certificate. It seems that many problems arise regarding the wet part, and I don't want to make more changes that might harm students who already solved it. Therefore, the only routine that will be auto-checked individually is chRowCol. You still need to write the rest of the specified routines and pass the specified parameters. It will be checked that you did that. In the routine chBlock, you are allowed (though it's optional) to pass another parameter with the address of the end of the row/column, in register r3. Don't forget that your program will still be tested as a whole, just like in the previous exercise. |

Since it raises too many problems - in the routine chRowCol that gets two inline parameters, please pass them inline by reference and not by value as was first stated in the exercise. For example, if you want to pass the values of X_Size and Y_Size as parameters, your calling code will be jsr r5, chRowCol .word : X_Size, Y_Size And inside the method use @(r5) to access the value. I hope there will be no problems now. If you already finished and submitted your solution using by value parameters, you can submit the wet part again (it will override the previous submission), and you don't have to worry about the dry part. If you still have a problem, contact me about this. Sorry again for the confusion. |

In the wet part, you are required to use a specific linkage register in the 4 given methods. This is, indeed, in contrary to what I told to some of you in the mail, and that was previously written in the FAQ. If the method receives an inline parameter, use r5. Otherwise, use pc. I'm sorry for the confusion. |

Hello All, Any issue regarding the home works that is not referred to the assistant in charge of the home work will not be treated. Questions directed to any other assistant will not be answered, submission to mail boxes other than the assistant in charge will not be considered, and postponement requests to any other assistant will not be accepted. Please follow the procedure that is written in each home work form, all issues regarding any home work has a certain teaching assistant that is qualified to treat them. |

Due to multiple requests and scheduling conflicts with other classes, you may submit HW 2 until Thursday, 4.6.2009 at noon (12:00). Note that this absolutely does not affect the rest of the course schedule. This means that HW 3 will be published as if HW 2's final submission date was May 31st, and will not be postponed. Thus, we strongly suggest you complete HW 2 by its original deadline If you were already given a postponement for any reason except miluim, then this postponement date supercedes the one you were already given, and the they do not add-up.
