Homework 2 weight will be less then other homeworks in the final grade Solution to the question 1 part 1 1. If N = 0, no crossovers have occured. If N = 1, one crossover has occured, i.e. the meiosis results in two recombinant and two non-recombinant haplotypes. This means that a recombinant haplotype will be transmitted with probability 0.5. Assume for N = k that the recombination probability is 0.5. This means that two of the chromtids are recombinant and two are nonrecombinant, i.e. a chromatid is recombinant with probability 0.5. Now if an additional crossover occurs (N = k +1), it will occur between two non-recombinant chromatids with probability 0.25, yielding four recombinant haplotypes. With probability 0.5, it will occur between a non- recombinant and a recombinant chromatid, yielding two recombinant haplotypes. With probability 0.25, it will occur between two recombinant chromatids, i.e. no recombinant haplotypes. Hence, the probability of transmission of a recombinant haplotype is 0.25 * 1+ 0.5 * 0.5 + 0.25*0 = 0.5 Thus, the recombination probability is 0.5 for all positive integers N |
