Pseudorandomness Course in the Spring Semester
Hi everyone,
Eli asked me to infrom you about the following.
Ami.

-----
Pseudorandomness Course in the Spring Semester

Lecturer: Dr. Ariel Gabizon
Course number:236601
Name: pseudorandomness
Time: Thursday 12:30-14:30, probably at room 201
Syllabus:
A pseudorandom object is one that has some nice property a random object would have with high probability. For example, a graph with no large independent sets or cliques.
The field of pseudorandomness aims to explicitly construct such objects.
Such explicit constructions have many applications. A lot of these applications are in what is called derandomization - turning randomized algorithms into deterministic ones without `paying' a lot in space or time.

The course will loosely follow the monograph of Salil Vadhan http://people.seas.harvard.edu/~salil/pseudorandomness/

דף העזר יחולק עם המבחן, ואין צורך להביא עמכם עותק שלו.

A new assignment on the site, not for submission
Hi everyone,

A new assignment is now on the site. It contains a question regarding differential cryptography and a question about secret sharing, two subject that where not covered completely in the mandatory assignments.
This assignment is not for submission.

Exercise 6 is now published
Hello everyone,

Exercise 6 is now published, and due Tuesday in two weeks (the last day of the semester) by noon.

At the tutorial yesterday we want over a question about the "Fiat-Shamir" protocol, that was taken from the exam of Winter11, Moad A.
If I didn't make it clear, this protocol is *perfect* zero knowledge: the distribution of the transcripts generated by the simulator is the same as the distribution of real transcripts, since the random bit distribution is the same.

See you next week,
Ami.

Prime Number Races
"There’s nothing quite like a day at the races... The quickening of the pulse as the starter’s pistol sounds, the thrill when your favorite contestant speeds out into the lead (or the distress if another contestant dashes out ahead of yours), and the accompanying fear (or hope) that the leader might change. And what if the race is a marathon?"

This is the opening of an interesting introductory article (see below), titled "Prime Number Races". There you can find the answer to questions brought up in class regarding the relative distribution of primes of the forms p=4q+1 and p=4q+3, as well as many other questions regarding the distribution of prime numbers.

Have a good weekend,
Ami.

Hi everyone,

I will not give my regular reception hour this Tuasday. Instead, I will give a reception hour on Thursday, 12:30.
This is a one time change.

In this week's tutorial we will go over some more properties of RSA, as well as some randomized algorithms.
Next week Tuesday is "matkonet Sunday", so we will not meet.

See you,
Ami.

Crypto tutorial this week
Hi,

This Tuesday we will meet once again at 12:30 for two hours, at Taub 8.
We will go over DES with the slides from the lecture, devise attacks on DES with the tutorial slides, and learn a bit about AES with the relevant pages, listed as "Rijndael.pdf" in the tutorials page.

If it's fine by everyone, we will start meeting regularly at 12:30 instead of 13:30. If you prefer to keep the original time, please E-Mail me as soon as possible, and I promise not to tell anyone...

See you,

Ami.

Tutorials this week, and a new HW assignment
Hello everyone,

As talked in class, this week we will have a complementary tutorial right before the regular tutorial. At the first hour we will continue discussing Number Theory (1), and on the second hour we will go back to the first chapter, namely Classic Cryptography.
I will let you know tomorrow about the location, and also leave a note at our regular class (5) on Tuesday.

We will probably have another complementary tutorial next week at the same time.

* Exercise 2 is now published, and is due in two weeks. *

See you all on Tuesday, 12:30,
Ami.

Welcome to Modern Cryptology (236506)
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Modern Cryptology course!

The updated slides for the first lectures and tutorials are now on the site, and you may want to bring them with you to class.

As you probably know, the Teaching Staff Organization announced a strike. If the strike continues, there will be no tutorial on Tuesday. The lecture will be given in any case.

If you see this message on the website but did not get an E-Mail, you're probably not registered to the site, and you should manually register on the Auto Update tab.

See You,
Ami.
