Exam A graded
Grades of Exam A are now published.

In the multiple-choice section, we gave full score for several combination of answers, including partial answers.

A square-root factor was applied (i.e., sqrt(x) * 10 ).
The average and the median of the exam grade after the factor is 76.

HW3 is checked
The grades for HW3 have been published. Submissions will soon be available in the secretariat. On the site's Assignments section you can find the details of the automated tests and the grading. In the published_results.xls file, only the last 4 digits of the IDs are shown.

Since it's the exam period now, if you wish to appeal either send a scan of the relevant part of the submission to Eran, or schedule a meeting with him by email (erangi@cs). Appeals may be submitted (in person or by email) until 26/2.

Note that no points have been deducted for late submissions - those who have exceeded the 3 days budget will have the points deducted from the 4th assignment.

Exam format
Moed Aleph of the exam will be held on 29/2 at 13:00.
The format of the exam will be similar to that of previous semesters - several multiple options questions, and few "open" questions.

No written material will be allowed to the exam room.
For the open questions - You will be given auxiliary pages that include the relevant MPI/OpenMP/BSP functions signature.

A message regarding reception hours before the exam will follow next week.

HW1 appeals clarification
As written in the previous announcement any question and appeals regarding homework assignment 1 should be addressed to Ilia during his reception hours personally and not by email (such emails will be silently discarded).
Those who have questions and have not come today can come on the next Monday 08:30-10:30 (two hours, not one as published before).
The updated grades (e.g. for those who re-submit) will be published on the next Tuesday and no further updates will be done.

returned to the boxes. The grades do not include late submission penalties,
which will be calculated separately.

ds-bl202 still has issues with BSP - please use ds-bl200 or ds-bl201 instead.

The BSP library was mistakenly not installed correctly on ds-bl200 and ds-bl202.
The problem should be solved now.

HW2 code update #2
Many students noticed incorrect time measurements done by the testing program.
Therefore we have replaced walsh-transform.o file once again. This issue should be resolved now.
Note that the screen output of the new implementation changed, particularly, time is printed in microseconds (not milliseconds).

Several students were confused by unclear description of thread inter-operation, particularly, what can or cannot be accessed by a thread. Therefore we have updated the homework description ­– last paragraph of section 3. Please, download and consult it.
A related question/answer pair was removed from FAQ, since the assignment now clearly states the requirement.

Connecting the CSL lab computers
Connection to the servers you use for homework is only possible from the Technion.
If you wish to connect from home, connect first to t2 or cs (using ssh client such as putty) and from there connect to the CSL lab server.
Connection from the t2/cs server is performed using ssh as well. If you are not familiar with ssh, use 'man ssh'.
Copying files to/from the servers can be performed using scp. Once again, if you are not familiar with scp, use 'man scp' on t2/cs server.

The passwords for the server you should use for your homework were sent.
Please check whether you received them, and check they are ok, connecting using ssh to the server.

If you didn't receive it, most likely you didn't follow the instructions - i.e., no t2/cs email address, etc.

Welcome - Information regarding first week studies
Welcome to CDP 236370. Feel free to review the syllabus for course schedule and information.

As for the studies in the first week: Recitations are planned to take place even before the first lecture. However due to the TAs strike, all tutorials are cancelled until further notice.
Take the time, on the meanwhile, to review the self-study "Tutorial 0 - Introduction to Java" that you will need for your first HW assignment and can assist you to understand the first tutorial.
